my daughter has also had a simular thing very recently although depending on which doctor we were seeing at the time was weather it was asthma or bronchoilitis, she ended up staying in bristol childrens hospital and was extremely poorly, it was very scarey!! there certainly hasnt been any information available, hopefully this will change now.

My little one isn’t a baby she is 2, and 3 times 4 weeks apart she has gone down seriously bad with this. Each time we have taken her to Hospital where they had her on oxygen and a nebulizer a number of times in the evening. The third time only 3 weeks ago was when she was hospitalized in Bristol being transferred by ambulance with sirens. It differs on the opinions of different doctors as to what was wrong either bronchiolitis or asthma attack!!! But I am lead to believe that asthma isn’t diagnosed before they are five and anyhow both these conditions affect the bronchioles. Her dad is bronchiole asthmatic so im thinking that from now on she will be too. However had this been dealt with this the first time I doubt she would have got so bad she ended up on steroids and on an nebulizer (cant spell that) for so long the last time. It was heartbreaking, im just hoping the on going medication she is on now to strengthen her bronchioles is working. in my experience though she didn’t have a cold first, maybe a slight cough, but I think it is important parents be aware there are always exceptions to the rule and certainly the time she was hospitalized she had a slight cough and within id say 4 hours she was struggling to breath.

Thanks to Bristol Hospital once again. It shows that there is not enough awarness about this and the hospitals agree.

Many thanks for the information on your site. Our little girl was born almost a month early, December 2006, and suffered with broncholitis last winter. It was very worrying to see her suffer but thankfully after visiting the doctor our minds were put at rest.
