Comments from the Evening Post ( This is Bristol )

This too has happened to my familly. My aunty took my cousin, who at the time was only a baby, to the doctors because he was so unwell, the doctor said it was just a cold and to give him calpol. She rang the emergency doctor not long after because he had got so much worse, and again just got told it was viral infection and to keep giving him calpol. He then turned blue so was rushed to Bristol Childrens Hospital where he was diagnosed with pnuemonia. He had to be put into a small oxygen box, god knows what would of happened if my aunty would of just sat back and heeded doctors' advice. My message is, if you have a baby / young child, and you know something isn't right and they are extremely unwell, take them straight to A&E. Better to be safe than sorry and this article and all these comments just go to prove that we cannot simply rely on our GP's, which is extremely sad. Sometimes a mother's instinct is better than any doctor's opinion so follow it. ( Zoe Bristol )

this happened to me when I took my daughter who was 5 at the time to horfield health centre she had a terrible cough and high temperature. Its a childhood thing, I was told, give her calpol.Idid this and took her back when she hadn'd improved same answer again later that evening she was rushed into southmead hospital with double pnuemonia .I wonder if Doctors are as lax with their own? unbelievable i have 2 sons the eldest had the same thing when he was a baby and i was told it was just a "cold", my youngest also had a "cold" that when i had a second opinion turned out to be pnuemonia. what makes it so difficult for the docters to tell the difference between a cold and some thing more serious? i think the fundraising idea is super and hopefully it will raise enough money to buy new equipment to help with earlier diagnosises and may even help to save a life (tara, bristol)

such a shame this is still happening it happend to me when my son whos now 13 was 3 months old if it wasent for my mothers intution to take him to the childrens hospital after being told by 4 doctors he was fine he would have died. (sarah, bristol )

My wife and I had a very similar situation in November with our youngest son. He was 4 months old and had a cold that he couldn't shift, so we took him to the doctor, who said its a cold. It didn't go so we took him back and were given anti biotics, but advised it probably wouldn't help! He slowly got worse so we phoned the out of hours doctor who listened to his breathing over the phone and recommended a trip to the Childrens Hospital. Once there he was diagnosed with Bronchiolitis and was admitted for 3 days. I think more should be done to make people aware of the issues! (Tony, South Glos )
