Sad News of Bronchioilits

It is with great regret that we cannot give you a full story at the moment for legal reasons of a call that we have taken  from a grandmother and her daughter. There case is similar to Charlie's but unfortunaly the little boy died that was 10 weeks old. Again told he had a cold !

Our Comment
We can't really say what we think as it would be to many beeps......, we feel we are so lucky Charlie is alive and it proves Bronchioilits can lead to other problems and be Fatel. Our hearts goes out to  the parents but makes us more determind to make this a success and make more awareness off Bronchiolits.

From a Freind

Hi Paul, I saw your awareness about Bronchilitis. My nearly lost my son when he was only 14 weeks, but his illness turned into Pneumonia!!! Very scary
My son is now 6 years old, but when he was only 14 weeks I took him to the Doctors 3 times in one week and they kept saying he was ok and not to panic, its just a virus ! After a week of no sleep and him not wanting his milk my freind suggest NHS Helpline. They asked lots of questions and one was wether his chest was breathing in fast and if his mouth was grey & mottly. I said it look funny. They said I should take him stright to hospital as he was only 14 weeks and get them to assess him. When I arrived at the hospital they checked his oxygen with one of those finger probes and before I knew it they snatched him from me and ran into the resusitation room. Charlie had to be sedated as he was a little fighter. From then we spent 2 weeks in hospital, as Charlies bronchiolitis went into pneumonia and he had a virus called RSV which is respiratory virus, which can be fatal.

It goes to show its not just in our area, Kate is almost a 2 hour drive away. Bronchiolitis can lead into other problems and it shows how common it is when your friends have had similar problems.

HI, my son had RSV so many times in his first 2 years, he is now oxygen dependant as his lungs are so scared and have shrunk to only 40 % capacity. I cannot stress how important it is to get to a doctor or take your baby to hospital as soon as possible. My son is 8 now and drs arent sure if he'll ever get off his oxygen, however, he is happy and leads a normal life.

My grandson was given 12 hours to live .. this came about as my daughter had her 6 month old son to the doctor 3 times in a week and was told on the last visit to get over it .. it was JUST a cold and she was costing the health system to much money with 3 visits in week ! On the 4th visit to the doctor baby was going in to a coma.. he was then rushed in to intensive care and put on a c pap machine to fight the fight of his life ! He was in ICU for 3 days then the childrens ward for nearly a week. It was one week I would hate to see anyone go through. My daughter was starting to doubt herself and had to be encouraged to return with the baby on the last visit, had she not the baby would have just slipped in to a coma and died, as it was by the last visit he could not be woken. During all these visits to the local medical she saw a number of doctors and not one of them picked up the problem till the last visit.

I glad we are starting to make good awarness of Bronchoilitis. It goes to show that we should use mothers instinct. If you are every in doubt you should ask to see another doctor or ask for a sats test or blood gas test. Being thro it with our little Charlie, no one explain what it feels like other than you would not wish it on anyone.

mson had it and was in hospital for 2 weeks, he was born 3 months early and has always had a bad breathin problem, the doctor 1st said it was a normal cough a baby gets, and i got made 2 feel i was a over the top young parent, it was that nite after seein a dr that my son had stopped breathin and lips turned blue,i managed 2 get him goin again but truely thought my son was goin to die in my arms, we were told an abulance wud b too long so my husband hurried me and my son in the car straight up to bristols childrens hospital where he was put straight on oxygen and remained on that for 8days. i dont think dr's take the time to read a childs history or examin them properly, i no dr's r under presure but lives are bein lost cos of this. i fully support this group.
becci manning.

My son was born with chest problems and we had to stay in the hospital for 15 days. He was not feeding for ten days and was put under oxygen and in the incubator for 15 days when we were allowed to go home. One most important point I would like to note down is that at times doctors are not honest and just want to make money out of their patients. That particular time when i was delivering our family Paeditrician was on an emergency operation and could not reach so i let my gynaecology pick up a paeditrician for our baby. It was shocking, the treatment that we got and also the baby was not getting better, we ended up replacing him with our paeditrician who thank God worked wonders. This doctor had a courtesy to even tell us that if it wasn't for him our baby would have died......i wonder what he taught of himself....GOD ALMIGHTY?
